ROCKFORD (WIFR) – Hundreds of local elementary school students are unable to play in gym class simply because they can’t afford the proper shoes.

Tonight, a local organization is trying to change that. Annie’s Locker collects new shoes for Rockford kids in need. Tonight the group is teaming up with Lucha Cantina to help children at Kishwaukee Elementary School.

The business is offering a $10 voucher to anyone who donates. So far, 300 students have had their feet measured.

Organizers are hoping to have all the shoes ready by the start of the school year.

The organization is asking for new gym shoes, girl’s size 4 through women’s size 7 and boy’s size 4 through men’s size 10.
