ROCKFORD (WIFR) — To get some students ready for their first day, one local organization is collecting gym shoes to make sure they are ready for P.E. class.

Annie’s Locker is taking shoes and socks for students in kindergarten through fifth grade at Kishwaukee Elementary School.

The collection will continue through August 31 at several of their locations as they try to get 300 pairs.

Organizers say that getting a pair of gym shoes can lead students down a healthier path.

“I think it’s really important that when you’re healthy, there’s so many other things in life that can fall into place,” said Carol Bingley with Annie’s Locker. “We want to give these kids a good chance at a better life and staying healthy.”

Annie’s Locker has been taking in shoes and socks since July 9 and hope to deliver them to Kishwaukee on September 3.
